Player As Coaches
By editor on August 12, 2007
Many young players today are hiring other pro retired players to coach them and initiate them into the game. This has been the new trend for many world cup teams also. Many boards are hiring even foreign players as consultants and coaches. Some are even hired as second in line coaches. Aspiring players have the mental set that if coached by player of yester year of may be a current pro player, and then their initiation into the game is easy. This may be true, since pro players who coach do get the media attention they need to give their apprentices.
Although being coached by a pro player is a good thing, many talented players never carry the coaches through, which is sad and materialistic mentality. Many of the coaches are left high and dry, as soon as the apprentices get their initiations into the game, they hire big Public Relation firms and Advertising companies which, build them up in to brands; this takes away the light from the pro players. Pro players on the other get involved as coaches because they love the game and coaching the next prodigy has its own advantages with being the media spotlight for sometime.
